Schlossberghotel - Graz, Austria 

The location of this hotel, just a short walk to the main square and to the Schlossberg, is terrific, but don't let the reviews get you too excited. It is really only a 3 star hotel. Our room was huge, but the decor was eclectic to the point of marginally ugly. Some of the modern art was more gruesome than I'd like in a place where I'm sleeping, and I'm a modern art fan. The pool is ridiculous - we didn't even bother even though we had planned to use it. Breakfast was very nice and the ladies at the front desk were helpful. We had a view of the street. The hotel did have AC, which was a plus, but the TV was tiny and so far from the bed you needed binoculars to get a good view. It's a bit strange of a place and I doubt I'd stay here again. It's fine, but overrated.

Great hotel in the historical area. I booked a room the day of stay while leaving Venice. There was no problem getting a nice room. My sister and I shared a lovely, surprisingly large and well decorated room. The air conditioning worked perfectly. There is a lot of very interesting contemporary art mixed into the more traditional decor which was a great visual relief from the norm. The bathroom was marble, with a tub and was very clean. Well stocked minibar. Location is great, very close to all sites and adjacent to the Mur river which I could see rushing past from my dormer windows. This is a charming, personally-owned hotel that is also professional and possessed of the amenities a frequent traveler values. The bed was a heaven of comfort with down pillows and comforters. The breakfast was also good and served in a delightful winter garden with glass roof.
