We had one night at Wood Hall last Sunday evening. We were attending a trade fair in Harrogate and this came out reasonable value compared to some of the dated Harrogate hotels. We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. On arriving, yes there was a wedding there, which we did expect after reading other reviews. With the hotel being fairly small obviously the wedding was the main event but in no way did we feel second class guests. Our room was well away from the wedding party and we did not get disturbed, the room was clean and quite large with some very nice luxuries. Dinner was fabulous! On the dinner, bed and breakfast basis we were allocated ?35 per person for dinner and that was the price of the 3 course menu, so we only paid for wine,. It was actually a five course meal with the complimentary appetizers and soup course, fillet steak was also included and the service was excellent, they also reserved the lounge for non wedding guests so you were able to relax. The only thing was, they were very short staffed, but this was not the staff that were working's fault and they did their very best. It showed most at breakfast which was lovely but took a long time to arrive. Overall it was a good 4* hotel, which is what it is advertised as, more staff are needed but if you go with a relaxed attitude to any weddings that are on you will enjoy it. If you are thinking of having your wedding there it looks fabulous!

This is a beautiful hotel set in stunning grounds and our first impressions were very good, however on scratching the surface it seems that more work is required. We stayed in a standard room which was beautifully decorated but the large mirror behind the TV was covered in a thick layer of dust. We ordered sandwiches from room service and they arrived 45 minutes later and didn't resemble anything from the menu. Our drinks arrived unchilled and with no ice in them. The breakfast was very average with undercooked bacon, we had to ask for salt and the staff seemed very harrassed. These things may sound petty but this hotel isn't cheap and is spoiled by the lack of attention to detail. If these prolems were rectified it could be a truly great stay!
