My wife and I stayed at Whitley Ridge for one night in mid-July ’08. We are both well travelled world-wide. We were staying with friends in the Southampton area for the weekend and fancied a romantic night away just the two of us. Whitley Ridge was perfect. We negotiated a very good room only rate and decided to stay for lunch the next day. We had dinner in the New Forest Inn just outside the village (recommended by the staff) and it was gastro-pub type food and very good.
To pick up on a few points made in other reviews... Yes the rooms are small but they are decorated to a very high standard, are modern and spotlessly clean and have free Moulton Brown toiletries (we were in Room 4). Yes the majority of the staff are French but that’s to be expected with this type of establishment, they are polite, attentive and friendly. No the experience is not the same if you don’t eat in the restaurant as the hotel doesn’t have the usual range of services e.g. pool, gym, spa etc. but the grounds are delightful and make for a nice walk after your meal. No you probably shouldn’t stay if there is a wedding on as it will be very busy and quite loud in the evening as most of the rooms look out onto the grounds or patio areas.
All of that said, the main reason for staying here is the food and the food is quite exceptional, not to mention superb value for money. We had lunch (3 courses) each course as good if not better than the previous one: with wine and coffee, all for less than ?75 for the two of us ..... including the tip. Compared to city prices, that’s almost giving it away !
Go and see for yourself ... you won’t be disappointed

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights for our wedding anniversary May 28/29 2008.
We had booked room one which on arrival didn't give us the wow factor we had expected considering the price paid but it was clean and the bed was very large and comfortable. We were not very impressed with the 2 small chairs in the room but I suppose we didn't spend too much time in there.
The bathroom whilst not huge was adequate, very clean and appeared to have been recently renovated, we did like the large fluffy towels.
The view from the room would have been very nice but it was partly obstructed by a large marquee.
The location of the hotel is very good for visiting places in the New Forest. We visited Beaulieu and Bucklers Hard both of which were within 30 minutes drive.
The high point of our stay were the restaurant meals which were excellent, the ambience and service were also excellent and we would recommend it for either hotel guests or just for Dinner.
The wine list is extremely comprehensive and the bar well stocked and reasonably priced.
