I stayed at Melvin House 3 nights and it was a great experience. It is an old and well maintained house and feels very genuine. The location is great, not right at the centre but only 10 minutes walk to the centre. It is located in a beautiful, quiet square. The staff is very helpful and the breakfast is big and delicious. The rooms are small but cute. We stayed on the 5th floor and had a beautiful view. Also do not miss visiting the library on the first floor.
The only problem is the size of the beds. It was a double bed but felt like slighly bigger than a single bed and it wasn't comfortable. Other than that, everything was great!

I booked this hotel based on previous TripAdvisor reviews, as a suprise birthday weekend for my girlfriend. I've stayed in many hotels in my time, and when we arrived, it became quickly apparent the reviews on Tripadvisor were absolutely not an accurate reflection of the Melvin House Hotel.
Whilst the hotel is well-located and the rooms have nice views, the standard of accomodation is very low - it's in dire need of renovation and a good clean wouldn't be a bad idea either to get rid of a permanent lingering musty smell throughout the hotel.
Chairs were cheap, old and ripped. Bed linen and towels old and more akin to my grandmother's spare bedroom than a hotel that prices itself at the same price bracket as a (far superior) 4-Star hotel around the corner! Furniture looked like it was left over from a bad 1970's movie.
My personal advice - for the same amount as the Melvin House, there are plently of far better hotels in the same area. I'd hate to think anyone else should have the same disappointment as we did.
