Rooms

The guest rooms have their own unique style, dictated in part by the original layout of the building that has been respected wherever possible. High ceilings and huge windows are a feature of almost all the rooms giving an additional sense of light and space to what are already some of the largest hotel rooms in Amsterdam. Decorated in a chic Anglo-French style in colours of salmon or blue with bold stripes or floral prints, each guest room has beautiful heavy drapery with custom made light wood inlaid furniture.

3 of the main presidential suites, which are named after 3 former mayors of Amsterdam, the Van Thijn, Polak and Samkalden suites, were inaugurated by their namesakes on 20 May 1992. There are also 3 2-bedroom royal suites featuring stunning curved windows overlooking the encircling canals. Named in honour of 3 famous former guests - William V, Maria de Medici and William of Orange - all offer a separate dressing area, marble bathrooms and a dining area seating from 4 to 6 people.more info ...

Dining

Fine cuisine is essential to all Sofitel Demeure hotels and The Grand Amsterdam is no exception. The 325 kitchen space have been designed to fulfil the first principles of both Britain’s most famous chef Albert H. Roux, consultant chef of the hotel, and Andrew Gaskell, the executive chef himself.

Whether you require an informal working lunch, an intimate private lunch, dinner or gala event, you can be sure to enjoy a match of the highest cuisine in the most historic setting.

Café Roux has Art Deco decoration, a mural by Karel Appel and elegant windows looking directly onto the canal, all of which from a striking backdrop to the restaurant’s French style cuisine.

The restaurant is open for breakfast from 06:30 to 10:30, for lunch from 12:30 to 14:30 and for dinner from 18:30 to 22:30, 7 days a week. Café Roux is the perfect place to enjoy a fabulous meal.

The lounge bar, connected to the hotel lobby, is open between 09:00 and 01:00. Here you can enjoy an afternoon tea, a drink after a busy day or a snack all day long.

Stayed at The Grand for two nights, for the third time, and this truely is my favorite hotel. We've enjoyed the welcome, the room, and the beautiful property but above all we loved the polite and polished staff, check in unfortunately took a bit long... There are a few dislikes such as the small fitnessroom, the decor of the room and the lack of treatments available. After a long day out and about in the city it would have been nice if they had a masseur in house....We've also had dinner in the magical inner garden, which wasnt cheap but worth the euros! Great wine waiters and true "Star" service. The breakfast was included in our roomrate and is priced at 28 euros, quite steep but a very eleborate spread, part buffet and part a la carte but all included in the price. Inside tip: we ordered room service breakfast on the first morning and they dont charge a surcharge for that which we found very elegant. We will certainly return to enjoy another weekend of luxury!
