Hotel Admiral - Opatija, Croatia 

I've just returned from a solo one-week holiday at the Admiral. I'd say the four-star rating derives from the opulence of the public areas rather than anything special about the facilities and bedrooms - good though my room was. I was truly astonished to be charged for a sunbed and parasol at the pool, let alone in a 4* hotel! I've NEVER experienced this as a a guest at any other hotel -- they should seriously review this policy. My booking was breakfast only - there was a good range of high-quality breakfast dishes and items. However, why is a large area of the restaurant partitioned off as RESERVED SURGUT (or other agencies) when there was little or no sign of such guests?? I took one dinner at the "TAVERNA" (bit of a pretentious title!), where the ingredients for my grill seemed good, but the cooking a bit tired and soggy. Staff were generally courteous and helpful, but final checkout could have been friendlier - the reception man seemed mainly concerned that I wasn't fiddling the hotel out of a couple of kuna on the minibar and phone calls. No "Hope to see you again" or "Hope you've enjoyed your stay". OVERALL: Comfortable and competent hotel, but a bit short on "surprise and delight" factor.

Forget sauna,looks like it is only there to rise a star rate. Stuff attitude terrible...breakfast OK. not worth the money you pay!!!
