This was our second stay at the Ambassador, after a lapse of six years. The hotel hasn't aged much, if at all, although the prices have gone up a fair bit. It still has a spot-on location, extremely convenient for the historic part of Istanbul and for the tram to take you to the newer part. The staff was very accommodating throughout our stay. The complimentary breakfast is on a terrace with an absolutely stunning view of the Blue Mosque - another very big plus. The room was simple but clean, and more than adequate for our needs. Although I have also stayed at the Empress Zoe, which has more charm for a slightly higher price, its location is not as good. When we next return to Istanbul, we will likely stay again at the Ambassador.

Bed Bugs at the Ambassador Hotel

Although the service was OK and the view from the rooftop terrace was excellent, we had problems with bed bugs in one of the twin beds in one of our rooms. We had the "family" room (two rooms connected together) on the 5th floor. The hotel gave us a new room upon request and then did not charge us for that room or the return transport back to the airport. But they also didn't believe us when we told them that there were bed bugs. My sister-in-law had numerous large, red bites all over her body the morning after our first night there and the second night we actually saw one of the bugs. Great location - though probably wouldn't stay there again. Hopefully they'll take care of this issue.
