I recently stayed at this hotel near the Hermannplaz U bahn station. It is quite some distance from city centre but the train system is so good that it is not a problem getting around. There is a Karstadt dept store on the corner and banks with ATMS. Also food kiosks on the street for currywurst, fries etc. the hotel room was a good size with full bath. The TV was all German except for CNN but the reception was not good for it so I used my Ipod and speaker system for music. The room faced a busy street but I did not notice any noise as I live next to a major highway. They do have rooms facing the garden. There were no black out drapes so when the sun came up I woke up. The staff were wonderful at giving advice, arranging for my taxi to take me to the airport and coffee to get me going at 3am. the breakfast was EXCELLENT with a wide choice of breads, cereals, cheeses, cold cuts, fruit, juices, coffee, tea, yogurt. with such a good start to the day I needed very little lunch to tide me over to dinner. there are some great restaurants nearby- next door an Egyptian with calamari to die for. The german restaurant on the next corner had great schnitzel. an excellent hotel in a major city at a very good price, great service and breakfast too. What more do you need?

We stayed at the Ludwig Van Beethoven in May of 2007. The hotel was excellent and definitely exceeded my expectations having stayed in some *interesting* places in Europe previously. Arriving at the hotel via the very closeby U7/U8 lines it was easy to get to and had a 24 hr reception. The staff all spoke english and were very helpful the entire time of our stay - helping us to track down a pub showing a particular sporting event and answering several queries. The hotel room was very clean and large with a great shower. Every morning there was a huge buffet breakfast spread out from 7am - 10am. This included salmon, parma ham, other meat cuts, a variety of cheeses, fruit, cereals etc. (This was included as part of our booking although I believe that they sometimes charge this separately). Near the hotel are numerous shops including a large department store, a supermarket (be warned it does not take credit cards), and several restaurants. I would definitely recommend the Vietnamese place just along from the hotel (Hamy Cafe). We just ordered the specials off the board which were delivered within about 2 minutes and were incredibly tasty. I would not hesitate to reccomend this hotel and would definitely stay there if visiting Berlin again.
