The hotel opened in June 2005 after a GBP 4.7 million refurbishment. The elegant mansion house was built in the early 20th century and offers excellent facilities for both business and leisure, attaining 4-star status in November 2005 and AA Rosette standard dining in Summer 2006. The hotel was winner of the prestigious Visit Scotland, Thistle Award for 'Customer Care' In November 2007.

Booked at ?70 bed and breakfast through Laterooms, the Western House is terrific value. Rooms are well equipped, Sky tv, and free wi-fi plus nice selection of smellies in the bathroom. Breakfast is top class, and although the firm pillows didn't help me sleep, softer ones can apparently be obtained from reception. A definite to return to.

We stayed here for one night for a friend's wedding and it was brilliant! We had requested an early chek-in when booking and this was confirmed on the morning of our stay. This meant we could go to the hotel and get ready for the wedding due to take place at the hotel later. The room was clean, tidy and bigger than what we were used to. Plenty of hanging space and other small essentials that you would not think of. The grounds were beautiful and perfect venue for a lovely wedding. Came back to the room later to find our bed turned down with some shortbread and hot chocolate on our pillows - bliss! We booked this through Active Hotels and got one night, room only for ?49, bargain. Breakfast was a tad expensive - ?9 each, but as we had paid so little for the room we didn't mind. The food at wedding was fantastic. Would definately return to this hotel.
