We enjoyed our 4 nights stay at the Carlton Hotel. Although slightly dated it was clean and efficient and the staff was very helpful and courteous. After reading some bad reviews we were sceptical about going, but it was fine, we didn't hear any bad reports from any other guests. What a view from our room at the front overlooking the Straits of Dover (you can imagine). The breakfast was ok and the evening meal was very adequate.

We only stayed one night ,before travelling to France. Believe me when I say that one night was enough. The staff were friendly and cheerful and the breakfast was good. The hotel generally was clean and tidy, if a little tired looking, but the bed, that was something else. It was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in. Every time you turned, another spring stuck in somewhere. When I payed the bill in the morning I told the guy the bed wasn't very comfortable, he just smiled and said sorry.
