Ilaria - Lucca, Italy 

I knew about this hotel by Trip Adv. reviews, and my experience was really good. I stayed there for one night in July 08, and everything was ok. Staff was so friendly, the room was comfortable, bright, and it had a very nice view on a little river just down my window. The hotel is in the very center of town, and u can easily move with bikes that the hotel gives u for free. Very good experience

Similar to a previous reviewer, we also had a smelly room at the Ilaria. We left the large window open wide all day and night and it faded a bit,but not completely. The bathroom fittings and tiling had seen better days and were drab and uninspiring, as were the furnishings in the room itself. We were not very impressed by the quality of the breakfast buffet and flies were buzzing aroud.. Also, having had the most wonderful breakfast capuccinos made freshly for us at previous hotels we had stayed at in Tuscany, it was disappointing to have to use a poorly functioning machine, the coffee from which was foul. Two American gentlemen gave up in disgust when part of it fell off!. On the plus side, the hotel is nicely located in a quiet and leafy area of Lucca and the sun terrace is nice (no sun umbrellas though and it gets hot). . The receptionist was helpful enough. No comparison though to other hotels we have stayed at in Lucca, which were cheaper too.
