Villa Las Tronas details: A royal retreat on a promontory is Alghero's outstanding hotel. Villa Las Tronas was, until the 1940s, the residence of the Italian Royalty during their holidays in Sardinia. Built towards the end of the nineteenth century, the Villa is erected on a private promontory, a few paces away from the centre of Alghero.

Our hotel, open all-year-round, is a secure and exclusive oasis. Its park, suitably enclosed and with controlled access, separates it from the town traffic. The piers and terraces over the sea favour bathing in the summer and sport fishing in the winter, while the old dockyard, although partially sandy, is suitable for the mooring of small crafts.

We conserve the historic atmosphere of an aristocratic buen retiro and offers tranquillity, quietness, rest and the enchanting view of a gulf that has been defined as the most beautiful of the Mediterranean Sea.

Unlike certain artificial and exclusively tourist resorts, Alghero offers, in the summer and winter, culture, entertainment and recreation with cinemas, discothèques, shops, elegant cafés and the delightful Civico Theatre. The large tourist port is a safe landing-place for even the largest of boats. Nearby, coral and filigree of refined craftsmanship are available.

Alghero is an ideal place for practising aquatics such as swimming, windsurfing, sailing and recreational activities like bird-watching, photography, sub-aquatic archaeology and fishing. I was a single person travelling alone for four nights looking for elegance sophistication luxury warmth good service and above all a bit of peace and tranquility. I am happy to say that I found everything that I was looking for. I am a owner of a five star b/b ( The Hideaway Swellendam) in South Africa and was looking for somewhere to go for a bit of a rest from my hectic life back here in South Africa. The hotel was beautiful, filled with antiques and beautiful drapes, it was certainly a Palazza. It is very difficult travelling alone but the staff were so warm and welcoming that I forgot that I was alone!! It is a very romantic place so if you are going for your honeymoon or a long weekend away I can definately recommend it. I choose bed and breakfast and my evening meal as it was easier for me to stay at the hotel than to go to town alone. The food that I received was delicious and to be honest the portions were abit too big for me, but none the less I ate it as it was so delicious. So to end this review I would like to say a very big thank you to Mimo. Claudio, Giuseppe, and Paulo for making my stay a lovely one. I would like to recommend this hotel as I certainly will be returning one day to this lovely place. Diana Tye :0)
