As ever I agree with most of what has been written before. This is a comfortable rather traditional hotel in a nice neighbourhood whose food both breakfast and dinner is well above average. Staff range from superb - Gonzales? on front desk - to surly. I have rarely been cursed so obviously by a bell hop under his breath when leaving my room because I didn't offer him a tip. Sorry ! I had just arrived and had no currency other than $100 billls so that was why you didn't get one!
The staff were civil rather than friendly and I got the impression that several of them had been there a long time and rather resented the endless succession of wealthy guests who came and went. Like a previous reporter I was the only diner one evening although the food was excellent.
Overall it is a bit stiff, chintzy and clubby in style. It should lighten up both in terms of decor and attitude and stop taking itself quite so seriously.
In terms of value however it was incredible. Dinner bed and breakfast over two nights for US $246 with plenty of wine is a bargain! I wouldn't take the family for a week but as a nice business stopover for a couple of days it did the job.
