One of the main guide books and also the hotel's website had made this sound attractive, so I booked it as we needed somewhere central, not too expensive, with a family room. The hotel didn't live up to my expectations. It's very institutional, more like a student hall of residence, but with much older students. Other tripadvisor comments had mentioned the noise from a nearby pub, so I specifically requested a room overlooking the courtyard when I pre-booked. Instead, we had a room (2,123 - i.e. house 2, room 123) where 3 windows overlooking the noisy jazz club and even noisier adjacent pub, although one window overlooked the courtyard. In house 2, rooms 123-126 all overlooked the back of the former convent. As for design, the website said something about the latest Danish fashions, but Ikea standard springs to mind. Having stayed in beautifully renovated accommodation elsewhere on our holiday, this place looked shabby. I think I was most fed up when a member of staff just barged past me coming out of the reception area, without a word of apology in any language. Most of the staff lacked enthusiasm, but then this is a big hotel, so maybe they get like this when they see hundreds of tourists every day. On the plus side, they at least kept the restaurant open late - we ate there at about 10.20pm when we arrived later than intended (although the potato side-dish had been hanging around, but can't grumble really as I woudn't have wanted to start looking round the city for a restaurant at that time). The buffet breakfast was good. Had a good meal at the 4-rooms restaurant in the nearby square, and the children loved the look of the cool downstairs "chill" room - maybe one day when they're in their 20's!

Koventa Seta is a reasonably priced 3 star hotel located in the very heart of 'Vecriga', old town of Riga. Essentially you're paying for location with this hotel but it is clean and comfortable. The hotel staff were quite reserved and quiet but also very helpful with requests we had. Breakfast wasn't the best (in my opinion) but again, what you pay for is what you get.... It is a comfortable 3 star hotel very well located in the old town. Overall, would class as 'good' rather than 'above average' and would recommend for those travelling to Riga on holiday.
