I've stayed here twice over the past two years, and will be going there again this year when I visit Milan.
It's cheap, it's clean and decent, albeit simple. It's also close enough to the Stazione Centrale (about 10-15 mins walk), and close to Corso Bueno Aires which has several shops and cheap eats.. so you won't go hungry at night.
The last time I was in Milan I actually booked another hotel about 4 streets down, just for a change, and I regretted it immensely because bathroom fixtures were missing and there was mould EVERYWHERE. I cancelled the rest of my stay at that hotel and booked into Hotel Serena again, knowing that I'd have clean rooms for a decent price.
The middle-aged man who helms the reception in the early hours of the morning is a bit gruff, but he's okay. The lady who's there in the late mornings and afternoons is really nice though.

The Fawlty Towers of Milan!!!
This must rate as one of the worst hotels in Milan, the Manager was sleazy as we were 3 girls staying together he constantly made lewd comments to us daily. When we asked him for a map he said go and buy one - the breakfast was a joke a bread bun and coffee no ham or cheese or the usual things you get even in the most basic hotel but the worst thing was the unfriendly staff who never smile and you eat your breakfast in what they call a terrace but it is a room in with iron bars - basically a cage and they lock you in if it is near 10 a.m. as they do not want anyone else to come in. The decor is sickening yellow walls and green furnishings and the rooms are very basic with the smallest t.v.'s not worth the price they charge. If you are thinking of booking this hotel think again there are a lot nicer hotels in Milan with better staff.
