Hotel K - Salerno, Italy 

I chose the Hotel K (April 2008) because I had read on Tripadvisor that they accept dogs. And indeed that was the case. Also other things mentioned were true: A friendly staff, a nice large common room downstairs, clean rooms with good amenities, and a good price (60 Euros for a single room at that time of the year). The area is indeed less rizzy than the center of town, but lively, safe, with cafee's and restaurants etc. close by. An area in which real people live. The only thing that wasn't accurate in some reviews is the distance to the old town. The main downtown area is north of the train station with the really nice old town at the northern end. The Hotel K is quite bit to the south of the train station (I had read 2 kilometers, but would judge it rather 4 or so). So to get to the old city center it is advisable to take a bus. No problem, though: A number of bus lines run to the train station and beyond and the same bus numbers take you back, also at night, and straight along the Lungomare (the street along the coastline). so getting on and off is really easy. I actually enjoyed the location more than I would have close to the station.
