Hotel Grotta Di Tiberio - Sperlonga, Italy 4 star hotel

Address: Via Flacca, Km 15, Sperlonga, 169075
Hotel Grotta Di Tiberio details:  The Hotel Grotta di Tiberio, recently opened four star hotel, has splendid panoramic view, wide garden, swimming pool with hydro massage, solarium.

Situated 1 km from the centre and 250 metres from the beach, it is also close to the ancient villa of roman emperor Tiberio and the national Archaeological Museum.

Rooms are modernly furnished. Built with Mediterranean style, modern but at the same time simple in lines and colours.

The Hotel Grotta di Tiberio lies down at the feet of the hill at few hundreds metres from Sperlonga. Small medieval village on the slopes of the Mount San Magno. The candid white colour of the structure realized in the respect of the Mediterranean shapes, guards the emotion that the sea and the sky give constantly with their natural show. Walking with barefoot on the fresh green, bathing in the swimming pool, relaxing in the hydro massage corner and laying down with a fresh drink in the shadow of olive or palms trees, are simple gestures that give your five senses a pleasant feeling of soothed serenity.

Location

Sperlonga is a renowned tourist resort that overlooks the Tyrrhenian sea in one of the most scenic stretches of the Ulysses’s Riviera, namely the territory that extends from the Circeo promontory to Gaeta. The historical centre, which opens onto the sea and splits this wonderful coastal region into the eastwards and westwards sections, appears as a fascinating tangle of houses crossed by long stairways, flights of small arches in between narrow alleys, and enchanting panoramic view of the sky and the sea.
The other section of the beach, eastward-bound and full of atmosphere, hosts the archaeological site connected with the remains of the Roman site known as Emperor Tiberius’ Villa and nearby homonym grotto (whose finds are displayed in the adjacent National Archaeological Museum).
This section also includes the Blue Oasis of Tiberius’ Villa . Another point of attraction of Sperlonga is represented by the two lakes, the Lungo Lake and the San Puoto Lake, where is possible to practice water-skiing. From 1998 and every year the sea of Sperlonga has been given the award of the “European Blue Flag”, a recognition enhanced by a second one, the title of “The Most Beautiful Suburb of Italy”.

This was our third or fourth stay at the Hotel Grotta di Tiberio. This really is an exceptionally nice hotel. The executive rooms are a good size with a large balcony to watch the sun go down over the view of old Sperlonga & the sea. The room, as is the hotel, is well furnished & decorated in quite a modern style. The pool is great. Breakfast is only fair and the lighting on the veranda at dinner is too bright which is a shame as the half-board menu is very good. The bar also seems to be a little of an afterthought. Everything is spotless and very design. It is quiet despite being on the via Flacca. The beach is a five minute walk away and what a beach. It is even better out of season minus the Roman crowds. But every thing has a price. The room rates are a little pricey and having to pay an additional 16 Euro on the beach for deckchairs is a shame (La Cassetta is the best) . We will be back!

We stayed at this hotel with our baby. The standard rooms are not big enough, however the upgraded room we received after consultation with the front desk was much more appropriately sized. The hotel itself is newly built and set in small garden. The whole hotel has lovely views out over the Mediterranean and Sperlonga town. It is not located within the town, but is a 10-15 minute walk.. A pleasant enough experience it has to be said, no doubt better now as hopefully they are finished with the construction of a purpose built pathway which was still being built whilst we were there. This did not detract from the overall experience however. We felt the extra seclusion gained from being out of town made up for the walk, but then we also like walking! Bear in mind that this is a popular Italian holiday area, so the prices are somewhat high. This does however mean that the standard of food was also good and the town itself very tidy and nicely manicured. It is almost entirely devoted to the tourist trade, the raised “old” town built on a rocky outcrop, being more authentic than the lower development. Bear in mind also that this is an Italian beach experience… We felt that 20 euros for a sun lounger was a bit steep! In summary, thoroughly recommended, just don’t expect a budget holiday.
