My wife & i stayed in the grand hotel due golfi in the middle of may 2006 & had a week of relaxation mixed in with some laid back sightseeing.I've read quite a few reviews about the hotel in travel review sites & not all of them complimentary but i would have to say that our stay there was one of the most enjoyable stays we have had anywhere. The hotel is located a few miles out of sorrento up a twisting/turning mountain road near the village of Sant Agata which turned out to be a little gem of a place to go to pass the evenings after lunch. The hotel itself had all the facilities you would expect, bar, restaurant, pool etc but its big surprise was the fantastic views across the bay to Naples & Vesuvius-absolutely stunning. Our room was a good size on the ground floor close to reception & was really well kept, bright & clean. The food was excellent with a different menu everyday(no chips in the entire week- great) reception staff really helpful & full of info on anything you asked them.Taxis to & from Sorrento cost about 30 euro & more at nightime but the hotel has a courtesy bus that goes to & from Sorrento twice a day.Right outside the hotel entrance there is a bus stop from where we caught the local sita buses to Positano & Amalfi which were absolutely stunning & also into Sorrento. From Sorrento we got the circumvesuviano train to Pompeii & Herculaneum which saved us a small fortune against the price of rep sold excursions. We also went to Naples by train but wish we hadn't,it's a scary place- at times we felt threatened just because we obviously didn't look like locals. Sant Agata is about a 1/2 mile walk from the hotel with the first 200 mts being a bit hairy as there is no footpath, however the village itself was well worth the effort, plenty of bars, restaurants etc.We ended up most nights in bar orlando where the owner Orlando (obviously)was a real character full of conversation & interactions among the different nationalities frequenting his premises. We got into a few good nights banter with him & came home with a few bottles of homemade limoncello & olive oil,at a price of course but well short of what they were charging in Sorrento. He was one of the people who made the whole holiday so good.We would return to the hotel due golfi again anytime without a second thought & with any luck there might be a footpath all the way to sant agata & then there wouldn't be a single thing to complain about. micdev

We arrived at this hideaway retreat at 2am after driving around for hours trying to find it calling the hotel with no reply. Having eventually arrived we drove up the impressive driveway and went in, so far so good. We had emailed prior to our visit to let them know it was our honeymoon and was assured a double room. We were directed up to our room and opened the door! Single beds, just what the happy couple would want. The room was very basic and drab. Due to the late hour we decided to go to bed and sort it out in the morning. We requested another room with a double bed as promised and was told that the were no other rooms but they could replace the bed. We went out for the day and came back to our room later to find the beds pushed together and made up as one, not ideal but would do. The restaurant food was average. The cleaners came in too early. The place was almost deserted most of the time. The hotel is a good 20 minutes drive from Sorrento and up a very steep drive so walking was not an option which meant we had to drive every where. All in all it was very disapponting and they tried to overcharge us. We will not be rushing back!
