Location

Zagreb is already 900 years old, you will see it in every corner of the city. At every step you make you will discover everything from the history of the Medieval Age up to contemporary architecture. Those who know Vienna or Graz will feel at home in Zagreb. Relics from Medieval fortresses, baroque monasteries, classicist palaces and the typical buildings of the 19th century give Zagreb the radiance of Austrian cities. But the lifestyle of the city is oriented towards the Mediterranean rhythm of Trieste and Split.

It is this mixture that makes Zagreb so interesting for tourists, a destination to discover: during daytime you enjoy the architectural highlights of all the museums, churches, palaces, old cafés and vivid markets; and in the evening you explore the chic restaurants and bars, in trendy locations of the young, where the night never ends.

I spent only one night at this hotel on June 5th and was overall satisfied. Arcotel Allegra is conveniently situated at walking distance from Zagreb city center and pedestrian/shopping areas; you just need to walk 10 minutes and you're right into it. The area is not noisy and quite safe in the evenings; the hotel has a bar with tables on the sidewalk and you can enjoy a nice drink even though the street view is just normal and rather shabby. The indoor bar is well frequented and there’s live music every night. Rooms are really spacious and the restroom was spotlessly clean. LCD TV and a well refurbished minibar add up to your comfort. No wireless internet connection though; if you want to use the internet you can use the two free of charge computer desks just at the entrance in front of the reception desk but in the evening you might have to queue for that. I did not have a chance to dine at the hotel restaurant but breakfast was wonderful. It was held in their restaurant area and besides being wonderfully furnished I loved the great variety of food, the freshness of fruit and meat and the light and luminous environment and atmosphere. If you drive to the hotel like I did you can leave the car in the underground parking and get the elevator just from there directly to the lobby. It is not probably the best location for a romantic getaway but if you travel for business and/or plain tourism this place will do for sure. The only thing I didn’t like was how slow the staff was in checking us out; we queued at least for 15 / 20 minutes and we had only 2 people in front of us. Besides this I truly recommend it.
