We travel to Paris about once a month on business mixed with pleasure and are moving around the city as we decide where we will settle when we move here next year. We like the 14th and 6th, and have stayed in several hotels in these areas.
We booked on Venere.com. - they offered a suite for 200 Euro...seemed like a good deal, and we were staying for several days, so we would be in the room a little more than usual.
We read the reviews about the on-going renovation noise, and booked anyway. Well - they have only renovated the top few floors, and only one of the suites - just enough renovation to get some good photos onto the internet, I guess.
The suite was large, by European standards. That is ALL I have to say that is good.
The furniture looked like it came from a substandard estate sale - old, mismatched and beaten up. There was dust - not construction dust - plain old dust - under all the furniture; I dropped a pen behind a desk and nearly had an asthma attack trying to recover it.
We never got the heat in the sitting room of bathroom working - daytime temps were 5C at the time - so these rooms became almost unusable - and the steam heating that did work clanked and hissed all night long. Reception insisted that it had been repaired.
My wife became ill, and when I asked where the nearest pharmacy was, I was told "I don't know' by the staff. There is one a block away, around the corner - just one of many examples of a staff that let it be known that guests are just people who get in the way of their on-the-job mobile calls or TV viewing.
We asked if there was any room service - as one might expect from a supposed Three star...nope. Amazingly, no relationship with the Brasserie downstairs, despite the staff saying we could order and take away from there.
Maid yelled at me one day because we slept in (sick wife) - actually told me 'Time is Money'...as she thrust towels at me.
Internet wasn't working, and I asked if the router could be reset; blank looks and indifference all around.
Summary:This is a classic bait and switch - get some rooms redone for the photos. Incredibly indifferent staff - couldn't care less about the client. We left early (all this on only two days) and stayed at a great place around the corner - Lenox Montparnasse...excellent place.

My fiance and I along with his parents vacationed in Paris last December. We had a wonderful time. This hotel was very nice. While we were there, they were renovating it. Our room was one that had already been renovated. I felt like I was at home. In Paris, a lot of the rooms are smaller than we would typically see in the U.S. but this one was pretty modern. There was a very nice mosaic piece in the bathroom around the mirror. We also had a flat panel t.v. My fiance's parents stayed at royal st. germain. Their hotel felt crammed and old. Another perk about our hotel was that you could cach the metro right across the street! We did not have to walk far. We plan on going back to Paris again, and we will most definatly stay here.
