We stayed at the Hotel Castilla Alicante for a week in May 2008.
Hotel
We got a taxi to the hotel from the airport ( 32 Euros) which took about 20 minutes. There are plenty of taxis waiting for you to use.
Our room had a large balcony overlooking the sea & the room was very clean & spacious ( maid came in to clean everyday).
The hotel is situated about a 1 minute walk from Playa San Juan beach, which is a fabulous sandy beach about 6 miles long. The beach has European Blue flag status and it is easy to see why.
Food
We found that there weren't many English speaking waiters in this resort so if you don't speak Spainish you will have to point a lot! However if you are struggling there are a few more English speaking restaurants in El Campello & Alicante. Good restaurants we found were Ricardos ( Playa San Juan), CJs ( El Campello).
The breakfast in the hotel is the usual continental style - cereal, fruit, bread, cakes etc. They do have sausages & eggs but these weren't to our taste.
Getting around
The tram is excellent for getting around. The nearest stop is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. They run about every 30 mins. Line 3 takes you along the coast to El Campello (10 mins) in one direction or Alicante ( Mercado - 20 mins) in the other direction. It only costs 1 Euro 10 cents so great value for money.
I would certainly recommend staying at Castilla Alicante it has a fab beach & is a great base for touring around this part of Spain.
