The Rey Fernando is close to railway station and airport-bus terminal (in Rua Dr.Teixeiro). It's in the heart of the busy, stylish shopping and commercial centre and about ten-15 minutes walk to the centre of the pedestrianised old city. The hotel is on the 6th floor of an apartment block. It's quiet, simple, friendly, clean. Just what you need for a low-cost city base. Breakfast is traditional Spanish - rolls, croissant and coffee. Nothing justifies the complaints in the previous review (possibly excluding any wheelchair difficulties the party experienced). John.

We stayed at Rey Fernando for a short break (myself, my sister and our father). There were a few lies told by the hotel website:- 1. We are wheelchair friendly; they were not. There was a lift but it was not big enough to fit the wheelchair in. therewere steps into the hotel which were unsuitable. The wheelchair would not fit in the hotel room either and had to be dismantled in the corridor. 2. They say they have a restuarant - They dont but they do advertise one three streets away!!!. 3. They say they have a swimming pool! - where. 4. They say we are 5 mins from monumental centre. They are not. We had to get a taxi and it was more like 10 mins ride and 30 mins walk. The hotel room was tiny and clearly unsuitable for 3 people with a wheelchair. They only spoke english when they wanted to if there was a problem they pretended they couldnot understand you. i got round this by insisting we translate by computer. On the second day they lost the key to the safe and told us we could not access our belongings. I insisted a locksmith was called immediatly and thw key was miraculously found. The breakfast was vile and unsuitable. The bar did not stock any wine and only had a limited number of bottles of beer. Santiago was beautiful and charming. I will definately go back to santiago but would not stay here again. I suppose it would be ok for those able bodied wishing to stay on the outskirts of the city.
