Hotel am Rathaus - Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany     

We stayed at this hotel for two nights in June. We were looking for the tourist office after arriving by train, and found that to be closed. Just on the other side of the square we saw the signs for this hotel, and popped in to ask if they had room for a family of four. They had, and it turned out to be a spacious apartment on the top floor, with a separate bedroom and TV/DVD for our two children, and a spacious bedroom with TV/DVD for us. And this for 129 Euro per night. We actually had to verify in the reception that this was the correct price for the room. They were doing some renovation on the same floor we stayed in, but that didn't bother us. They didn't start before we got up, and the rest of the day we were out wandering around in town anyway. Also, the elevator ended in the floor below our floor, however, no problem for us. The hotel had a perfect location for walking around in the town. The kids also enjoyed the good selection of DVD's as mentioned by others, and we also used the free internet PC in the lobby. Just perfect for us. And finally, even the breakfast was one of the best we had on our one month interrail tour across Europe, and the room probably the best value for money of all.

Have booked many corporate guests into the Rathaus for years and have always been pretty happy with the hotel same as my guests. Lately however, we had some minor billing issues which can happen but what worries me a bit is that no one at the hotel seems to worry about my complaints. In the past they were dealt with asap and always to my satisfaction. Recently, the personal service is not as good as it used to be which is a shame as location and interior are brilliant for the price.
