Location

Bergstrasse region (0.0 km) - “This is where Germany transforms into Italy”, was how the Emperor Joseph II, in the spring of 1764, supposedly described the picturesque Bergstrasse region. The area’s climate is protected from cold east winds from the Odenwald forest and so is mostly mild, with temperatures above average for Germany. The numerous plants, such as almonds, peaches and apricots, which are normally native to southern Europe, yet are found in this part of Germany, are testament to the region’s relative warmth.

Ladenburg (6.5 km) – wander the meandering, cobbled streets of this sleepy town, steeped in history. At ‘die Kartoffel’, (The Potato), you can eat a steak cooked on heated stone at your table.

Heidelberg (13 km) - see the charming historic ‘old town’ and be impressed by one of the most beautiful castles of Germany.
