Hotel Brione - Riva del Garda, Italy 

On arriving at BRIONE, we were greeted by a very pleasant lady who checked us in and wished us a very nice stay. After that, we never met her again. As we walked to our room, we noted its very 'seasonal-may not have been occupied since last summer' aura. When we got to our room, we were knocked back out to the hallway with a whiff which is certainly indescribable. One might say it was something similar to (a) a dead animal, (b) a very sick animal, (c) animal with very bad breath. Realistically, it was likely to be as a result of either damp walls or lack of occupation. Being die-hards, we decided to stick it out for the first night and blame it on the tremendous amount of wood that surrounded the hotel! (Don't ask..silly justification.) So, having endured the radioactive croissants and thick, charcoaled coffee, we braved the elements and confronted the receptionist-not the lovely lady anymore-but a grump of a man who appeared to be the owner. Hospitality is not his forte so don't expect much. He grunted at us when we complained of the smell and hesitantly offered us a new room two doors down from Room 225, 'massacre of the animals'. As he unlocked the door of Room 222, we became aware that the original smell had an even worse competitor down the hallway. This time, we grunted and trudged our way back to Noah's ark knowing we had the best of a bad situation. Hopefully, due to the JUNE occupation, the smell should have lifted for the lucky tourists of July and August. Otherwise, it was reasonable, clean, safe and a good location. Just don't expect an attitude of 'THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT'!! More like, to hell with the customer...grunt grunt!

L'Hotel Brione dista 10 minuti a piedi dal porticciolo / dalla piazza principale di Riva del Garda. L'hotel è pulito e di notte è silenzioso. C'è l'aria condizionata in camera ma abbiamo avuto qualche problema per farcela accendere al nostro arrivo a tarda notte. Le camere e i bagni erano belli e la piscina era carina e più ampia di quelle di altri hotel della zona. La nostra maggiore delusione è stata l'atteggiamento dei proprietari e di alcuni addetti del personale dell'hotel. A volte erano seccati e avevamo l'impressione di disturbarli quando chiedevamo qualcosa. Insomma, era il loro lavoro!!! Si sono rifiutati di fornirci asciugamani puliti l'ultimo giorno. Abbiamo dovuto fare il check out presto, ma potevamo partire solo alle 5 del pomeriggio. Eravamo in 4 e ci hanno fornito 2 piccoli asciugamani. Quando abbiamo cercato di farcene dare altri la risposta scocciata è stata sempre la stessa: "Non possiamo fare nulla. Ormai è come se foste partiti". Ok, avevamo appena sborsato 600 euro e non potevano davvero fare nulla per gli asciugamani...mmmm... Va bene, ora la smetto di lamentarmi degli asciugamani. Anche la sala colazione non era comunque un granché. Credo volessero proporre una colazione a buffet ma i cereali erano terribili, la frutta era ammaccata e non fresca, il prosciutto sembrava plastica e il resto era poco invitante. Abbiamo mangiato dei croissant che erano passabili ma che contenevano conservanti probabilmente dannosi. In generale, questo è un ottimo punto di partenza per visitare la zona. Non è costosissimo, è pulito e silenzioso. Preparatevi solo ad uscire a fare colazione fuori, evitando così il buffet dell'hotel.
