Best Western Hotel La Solara - Sorrento, Italy 

We've just returned from a week at La Solara and were delighted with the hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. On the first night we found the bed rather firm, so asked if we could have a softer mattress - no problem. Then, being used to a fan in the bedroom at home, we asked about that - 2 minutes later we had one. The room was large, very clean and tastefully decorated and the balcony was huge with a sea view. The pool area was lovely with lots of sunbeds as well as tables and chairs for the less agile, the bar/reception area had lots of comfortable armchairs and sofas and the food was excellent with plenty of choice. There are only 40 rooms but there was a mix of nationalities - and ALL seemed pleased with the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Sorrento.

This is the 7th time we have stayed at the hotel over 12 years,and it has never been bettered by any other hotel we have been to. The staff are always excellant(half a dozen of them have been there all the time)and the food can,t be beaten. As for the people who complained about thin walls, they must have very sensative hearing, as i never heard anything from our neighbours all fortnight. Also those who did not like being out of town must like car fumes and noise, as that is what the sorrento is full of. Anyway, the hotel bus is every hour, so it is a doddle getting into town. I will say that when booking the hotel, pay extra for a sea view or ask for a side facing room, or you could end up facing the extremelly close hillside, which are not the best rooms available. My wife and i have already booked for next year as we are meeting our friends who could not make it this year. Roll on september 2008.
