Canal City Fukuoka Washington Hotel - Fukuoka, Japan 

I stayed here as a single female traveller. The hotel is located right next to Canal City Shopping Centre which provides all the food/meals/shopping you need. It is about 15 minutes walk to the closest subway station (Gion station). It feels quite safe walking back to the hotel on my own even at night. As long as you don't mind walking to Gion station, this hotel could be a good base for exploring Fukuoka since the subways could take you anywhere you want to go. Service at the front desk is decent. Staff spoke some but not much English. They are more helpful if you could speak some Japanese (and I did). There is always a line of taxi outside the hotel so no worries about getting a cab to the airport. The room is very very small. It is clean but not terribly comfortable compared to other 3 star hotels. There were some stains on the quit cover and the carpet. I asked for a non-smoking room but the room smelled like smoke. The walls were thin so it could get quite noisy if there's a bunch of people walking past your room, but not noisy enough to really disturb sleep. Overall this is an ok 3 star hotel.
