Galeon - Sitges, Spain 

We booked this hotel on a friends recommendation but didn't hold to many preconceptions as it was so reasonably priced. As stated on other review, the hotel is in two parts, we were allocated to the 'Pavilion'. We had two room, both which clean and traditionally furnished. The rooms are basic but the aircon worked well in very warm temperatures and the TV was a Sony. Breakfast was to a very high standard and the staff helpful. One 'attraction' of the hotel was the pool, as we have a young child but this was a bit of a disappointment. Its a lot smaller than I could have imagined from the photos and a bit hemmed in on all side by buildings and trees. But did have a jacuzzi bit at one end that appears to have been added recently and it would probably have been fine if we had been staying longer than just the weekend. But it was never going to be a place to linger all day. All in all, a good location and a very reasonable price/

Myself & my partner had previously stayed at the Galeon in July 2007 and had some problems with our room during our stay. However, we have an apartment near Benidorm & decided to book 7 nights at the Galeon and then drive to our apartment at the end of the week. Having done so, I now wish we hadn't... The Galeon is a very outdated hotel that is drastically in need of refurbishment. Basically, there is no sound insulation in the main building. When we booked our room, we specifically requested a "Quiet room in the Annex", but when we arrived we were greeted by a very surley receptionist who put is in a horrible, small, dark room on the first floor above the main reception area. The room had one small window and was very shabby and unwelcoming. The first night we spent in this room was so noisy, that I would challenge anyone staying in it to get a wink of sleep. The noise from the bar & reception downstairs was very loud. The following morning we requested a move to the Annex; the room was on the 2nd floor and slightly better, with a terrace. Still noisy due to a lot of building work which seems to be taking place in Sitges at the moment. This hotel is cheap because there is no way the proprietors could get away with charging a lot for staying here - be warned, you get what you pay for! We endeavoured to make the most of our time in Sitges, but the combination of grotty accommodation, noise and very high prices for food & drink has led us to the conclusion that we probably won't bother visiting Sitges again.
