we took an overnight bus from goreme to pamukkale (denizli) and arrived an hour earlier. mr mehmet, owner of hotel, agreed to meet us at denizli which is about 15 km from pamukkale. since we arrived at 5 am, we hesitated to call him as it was very early. we waited till 5.30 am to call and mehmet answered and immediately said that he will be on his way to pick us! he came by about 15 mins later and apologised, saying that his alarm did not ring, cause if it did, he would have been at the bus station earlier than the scheduled time of 6 am, waiting for us! he took us back to the hotel, saw us to our rooms which were nicely decorated. our room was purpled-theme while my children's room was orange. mehmet explained that since this is the quiet season, they use only the main area of the hotel which acts also as their living area. the back area, with the pool and tree houses, is open only in summer. we rested and went down for breakfast later. met his lovely wife, ummi and their two beautiful daughters. after breakfast, mehmet drove us to the hierapolis sight. we spend many hours at the ruins and also at the calcium-pool. had a lovely dinner which ummi cooked. mehmet, in our absence, arranged our transport to selcuk, our accommation at selcuk and also arranged our tour to aphrodisias the next day. he also helped us in getting our money changed to YTL. mehmet and ummi were very gracious hosts. i enjoyed chatting with ummi and felt that i was saying goodbye to a friend, and this was only after having known them for a day! the rooms were tastefully-decorated and clean. meals that we had were the best home-cooked meals and the couple are simply the best; warm, friendly, funny, helpful and most of all appear to enjoy what they are doing. wished we stayed longer.
