More than 46 castles and fortresses, 57 monuments, 26 historical buildings and at least 90 more sights await your visit in Dresden, and even then you will still not have discovered all of Dresden's charm. The Frauenkirche (Church of our Lady), which has been under restoration since 1994, the "Brühlsche" Terraces with its group of statues depicting the four seasons, the "Blaue Wunder - Blue Miracle" or "Pillnitz Castle", where a house was built solely for a 200-year old camellia, in which this rare and aged plant can enjoy the ideal temperature and humidity conditions, are only a small part of the endless wealth of sights and attractions in the city and surrounding area.

I loved the hotel. Great location right on the main square and right next door to the Frauenkirche. It's within short walking distance of many of the key sights of the city, which is amazing for the great price of the hotel. Everything in the hotel looked brand new. Rooms nice and clean. I would've added my own pictures, but they were exactly the same as the ones already posted. Comfortable beds with comforters (Euro style). Couldn't really ask for more. Just wish the breakfast wasn't 19 Euros.

Steigenberger Hotel de Saxe was a very pleasant stay. The room was extremely clean, and it was right next to the Frauenkirche, and 5 min. from the Semperoper. The hotel had a gift-wrapped stollen and hotel cookbook waiting in the room when we'd arrived Xmas eve, along with an apple, plum and walnuts, a very nice gesture. We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel since we're not big eaters at 19 euro each. Instead, we went to the lobby in the a.m. to pick up some complimentary croissants and a pot of hot milk, and then we made coffee in our room with the room facilities provided. That saved us 38 euro immediately, and with our ipod of xmas music, we were set like a jello mold at a Sunday potluck! The room also supplied complimentary slippers and free use of bathrobes, which we took w/us to the sauna. The sauna facility was excellent....three wonderful saunas with nice sized shower facilities. There were also treadmills, but since there is so much walking to do in Dresden, we felt it was best to walk the city rather than spend time "treading" indoors. Re: restaurants in the Altstadt, I preferred those across the bridge in the Neustadt...so much more authentic in feel to those in the Alstadt, which cater more to tourists, with a price and attitide to match. The Tapa restaurant next to the Frauenkirche is especially flagrant, with a service mentality that is a throwback to the GDR days. Steigenberger Hotel de Saxe made our holiday stay very pleasant. Note that the "courtyard" view is really just a shaft looking onto other rooms, but at 60 euro extra for a plaza view, I don't think it's worth it. I do recommend this hotel.
