Hotel Haus Morjan - Koblenz, Germany 

The location of this hotel does not disappoint. It is right on the water and the K-D line "Goethe" ship is literally right at your doorstep. It is a lovely view from the hotel to the water and the castle towering above, and makes it easy to cruise the Rhine. Less than 1 min walk to the German Corner (Deustch Eck) as well. The hotel is also a 2-5 min walk to the old town area of Koblenz. While not as quaint a town as some others on the Rhine, Koblenz is certainly the largest, so it makes a nice base in terms of plenty of restaurants, very interesting people watching, etc. In addition, the hotel was clean, the staff was extremely nice, and the breakfast bar was a very complete meal (cold meats, breads, granola, yogurt, juice, and my personal favorite - Nutella!). We stayed for 2 nights. Our first night we stayed in just a standard room and our second night we asked to upgrade to one with a view of the river. This was only 10 euros extra and definitely worth it. You get a balcony with a view of the water and the castle, plus a nicer TV, etc. Would definitely recommend that you spring for the river view room - that is why you are staying on the Rhine in the first place, right?! Our only complaint, and it is a small one, is that parking is very limited at the hotel. We were on this trip due to being part of Volvo's Euro Delivery program so we had our brand new car with us and picked this hotel partly because it advertised free private parking. The lot is private and fairly secure, but with only 8-10 spaces, it was full with other guests' cars the whole time we were there. No huge biggie - we just parked down the road in the public lot, but is something to be aware of. Also, make sure you bring your own shampoo and soap as none is provided.

I booked two single rooms for 4 nights in june and we were not disappointed by the hotel location. Within walking distance from Koblenz old center (5mn.) and right by the Rhine, it certainly is the best located hotel in Koblenz. If you book a room (double I guess) looking over the river, the view is fabulous. Unfortunately the singles have to do with the inner courtyard of buildings around, but it is quiet and ok. The terrace where we had breakfast is simply marvellous, along the river and peaceful. It is part of the restaurant downstairs. The only weak point I found was the actual entrance of the hotel at the back, basic to say the least. Rather like entering a basic building block with no effort in decoration or welcoming apart from a cigarette vending-machine ! ( and a bad smell perhaps due to the heat that week ?) That I found that very strange, considering that overall, the hotel is very pleasant, clean and the owner very friendly. With its excellent location of course, the hotel does not need to add many extras to attract customers ! Koblenz is lovely and the Rhine superb, as well as the Moselle, and it is a perfect place for a short, easy, relaxing break.
