We had planned a easter break in the Kings Head. A friend had told us of the quaint little place in the centre of beccles so i found there contact details and contacted them directly. I spoke to a very helpful chap called Martin who help us get the best room for our needs (not being able to climb many stairs) and he then thanked us for making the booking and said that he looked forward to meeting us and i really new that he meant what he had said.
We arrived Friday and we where greeted by Stewart who turned out to be the manager who personally showed us to our room (which i thought was a nice touch).
We went downstairs for a drink in the main pub part which was wonderful. Not the cheapest place but service was with a smile and the atmosphere was very pleasant.
We went out saturday to soutwold a wonderful little town by the sea returned to the hotel and we meet the chap who had booked our room, nice chap a lot of experience with many stories to tell that he had obviously told many many times.
We ate in the restaurant that evening and the meal, service waas wonderful.
We checked out sunday after a little problem with our room billing we said our goodbyes and told Stewart that we would definately see them all again.
All in all 100% for customer service, 100% for food 70% for decor ( needs a bit of a refurbishment) and would definately go again or recomend it to someone else.

We booked 3 rooms for a family stay to visit relatives in Beccles. Knowing off the Kings Head for many years but having never actually stayed there before we searched the web and found a discounted double room rate of £52 prpn against the hotels own £87prpn price. However the independent website crashed so I contacted the hotel direct and asked if they would be willing to match that on-line price, which they were willing to do. The person that answered was polite and efficient.
On arrival, you are welcomed by a small reception area, and lobby area, with comfy sofas and chairs, plenty of original wood features and a lovely snug 'library' relaxing and drinking area.
The bar seperated into 3 parts in quaint, welcoming, nice features and comfy. The open fire adds to the warm and cosy atmosphere in the winter.
We were greeted politely and shown up to our rooms. We were given rooms 1, 2 and 6. Each are on a different level, only a few stairs to room 1, a few more to room 2 and a few more to room 6. The original coaching house origins are evident in the architecture, sloping ceilings and floors just add to the quintessential atmosphere. Our room, room 6, was clean, bright and airy. A nice sized comfy bed, pleasant wooden furniture. The room looks over the square, the only real complaint is that if you do go to bed early you do nowadays hear people talking outside who have left the bar to go outside for a smoke, but Beccles was quiet.
There was a party going on in the annexe, music playing until 1am, but this was no problem, you really did have to listen hard to hear the music in your room so wasn't really a distraction.
The bathroom was clean, bright, maybe a bit tight for space, but had all the ammenities I needed for just a nights stay.
The heat from the bedroom radiator wasn't great, so we asked if anything could be done. The hotel manager come up within 5 minutes to bleed the radiators but did give us a portable plug-in radiator too which helped. A nice compromise, given that he explained that the water pressure in the heating system also services the bedroom showers/baths/taps and therefore can run low if bedroom facilities are being used.
My parents who had room 1 had a large room and a large bathroom (with bath) compared to room 6.
Breakfast the next morning was succulent, plenty of choice, local foods, though 1 piece of bacon and 1 sausage on a full english breakfast was a bit stingy, but the waiters were polite, efficient and happy to help, so full marks there.
The only complaint really is a minor one...and that is the price of drinks in the bar. Typically £2.70 for a pint of lager, £3.10 for Guinness, £3.75 for a glass of wine. That's too much.
Otherwise I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody booking a short stay to Beccles to visit the surrounding area.
