We have just returned from spending a lovely weekend in the Forbury. The hotel is pretty awesome, the decor is fantastic and the bedroom (ours was the most basic) made us want to move in! The only thing missing is a spa and swimming pool and this would be the perfect place to stay! There were a few gripes if you want to pick holes..the package promised champagne on arrival-we did not recieve this. We enjoyed a night at the cinema on the Sunday evening and were told to come down early to enjoy complimentary champagne again a no show, the film advertised was not the one actually shown which disappointed a few. On check in the tariff was wrong and on check out we were given 3 bills each completely wrong, we spent quite a while waiting while the reception staff worked out what we were to be charged with! We weren't the only ones either while we were waiting two other couples had the same difficulties. We had to ask a few times for an ironing board and when it arrived the housekeeping barged in while I was stood in my pants-oops! The rooms were also quite hot due to a fault with the heating in the bathroom. When we asked how to turn it down we were told that it was a problem many guests had pointed out. The hotel is very impressive, a real treat to stay really liked the attention to detail and the goody bags were great! The hotel staff were very friendly but this should be more slick for a hotel of this calibre. There were no apopogies for any of the mistakes made. I felt that considering the price the it was a shame that just a few simple things prevented our stay from being spot on. The restaurant was also lovely and luxurious the staff were much better in the restaurant than in the hotel itself and almost out numbered the guests so help choosing the cocktails(which were fantastic) and wine was always on hand if needed. The food was delicious. There were quite alot of locals in the bar which made for good entertainment. My husband really enjoyed himself-it was his birthday treat, we had a special offer but would not have paid full price. We would consider going back but not that much to do in Reading itself.

My husband and I spent a wonderful time at the Forbury. We were on the way back home after being away for 6 months, and I didnt expect such an priceless stay. I felt as though I made friends with the owner/manager and was staying in their home. It was so fun, and we enjoyed the champagne and the little fun bits that we got put in our room! Its great because they do this romantic turdown, where you come back to your room and its like Victoria Secret has been having a party in there... They have all these quirky extra's that you sort of stumble apon, and discover. They have his and her fans, and whatever you ask for, they will find a way to do it! Its expensive but well worth it,
