Carlsbad Plaza - Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic 0 star hotel

Address: Marianskolazenska 23, Karlovy Vary, 36001
Carlsbad Plaza details:  Reconstructed from a historical building and tranquilly located in the spa district, this lavish hotel is one of the first luxury spa and wellness hotels in Karlovy Vary.

The hotel is housed in a late 18th century building known as Rudolph’s Court. Boasting a historic heritage, the former residence had played host to important guests such as the first Turkish president. While remodelling this architectural gem, great care was taken to preserve the grand facade as well as modernising the inside.

There are a number of convenient contemporary facilities including an indoor swimming pool, modern meeting rooms, a fitness and health centre, alongside a variety of refined restaurants and bars. This sophistication is continued in the exquisite interior with its artistic decorations, sumptuous style, magnificent ornaments and stylish features. This residence will lend a sense of elegance to your stay in Karlovy Vary.

The Medical Spa Gallery is a unique balneological complex, applying not only traditional methods, particularly using natural thermal and mineral water, but also new methods of treatment to help regenerate your health with the active support of our qualified medical personnel.

There is a Wasserplatz with a tepidarium and 5 different pools, a Saunadorf with 6 saunas: Finnish, Russian, Turkish, herbal-aroma, salt bath and laconium, a Stillhof with heated sun beds and water beds, a Relaxgasse which offers classic and unconventional massages and the Caracalla bathtub and a Kaiserhof with a Fit-Bar, fitness centre and a solarium.

Children younger than 12 years of age may visit the spa centre until 17:00 only and should always be accompanied by an adult.

The Carlsbad Clinic opened in April 2007 and features direct access from the hotel to optimise the comfort of its guests. The clinic offers the services of a beauty parlour, classic and Thai massages, a cryochamber, diagnostics and surgery.

Location

This world-renowned spa town lies in the Teplá River valley, on the confluence with the Ohře River. The development of the town has always been linked with the healing effects of the local springs. Present-day spa treatments comprise of the intake of mineral water, classic spa procedures, as well as modern physiotherapy.

Karlovy Vary is also famous for its traditional manufacture of Moser glass, Thun porcelain, Becherovka herbal liqueur, Mattoni mineral water and healing cosmetics.

The town has an abundant cultural programme; several events of international significance are held here every year. We spent five days at the Carlsbad plaza during this year's film festival, which is a great time to visit this buzzing spa town. The room was large and comfortable, if a bit spartan. The breakfasts, especially the freshly cooked omelettes, were good. There is a great spa and sauna complex, and links to a clinic next door. The location is good too, both for the town and the countryside. But the whole deal - at ?260 B&B for a superior room (that just means a bit bigger) - seemed too pricey. We ate one night in their Asian restaurant - it too was overpriced; and don't be fooled by the pictures of the gourmet La Boheme restaurant - it opens up into a large cafe area. There is a sense that the hotel is trying hard to be 5* - a small box of chocs leaving, fruit in the room were welcome gestures - but the bar is dead, and with a preponderance of Russian guests, too few staff speak good English. If you want a great meal, dine at the Embassy a short walk away. It is by far the best place to eat in the town. Some guide books reckon this place gives the Pupp a run for its money: I'm not so sure.

New built Hotel, preferably occupied by Russians - and taht´s the way you will get treated there! Horrible service, underqualified staff (no English language skills), unfriendly staff, prices in comparison to service and amenities: far too high! 5 stars? Never - a long way to those! We spent our honeymoon here and were really disappointed. At least the city of Carlsbad and the beautiful architecture made our stay acceptable.
