We booked at the Residence Bologna with a couple of friends because of its reasonable rates and good location for sightseeing. We arrived very late at night to find one of the rooms wasn't ready but an alternative room was soon found. Rooms were basic but clean and the personal safe in our room was a good addition. The bathroom was good but a mirror in the main room would have been helpful .We quite liked the faded grandeur of the place. Our room was at the back of the hotel and we were woken early each morning with workmen making a lot of noise. Some reviews have mentioned helpful staff, I can only surmise the staff have changed as they were particularly distant, unfriendly, unhelpful and dour. They continued conversations with each other when guests were waiting for attention. One receptionist was eating her dinner when attending to guests and never a hint of a smile or greeting even when we tried to be pleasant to them. One evening after a thunderstorm we booked into the Resaurant for an meal. It was awful -bad service, falling out between the staff and we waited ages. We were advised to have the same to save the chefs time and efforts . Meanwhile a group, presumably management from the hotel were fussed over and given precedence over guests. Next evening we went down the road to the Stoleti restaurant which by contrast was excellent. Prague is a beautiful magical place to visit and we still had a great holiday but not due to the Residence Bologna.

After being in a very cramped room in Cesky Krumlov, this room was a castle! It was a studio, with king bed, table and chairs, large screen TV and a sofa. There was a wardrobe for hanging clothes as well as a couple of other pieces of furniture. On the downside, the kitchen was poorly furnished, and only one burner on the stove would lite. There were no utensils for making tea, but the restaurant next door was happy to provide a cup and saucer! The bathroom was also very large, with tub, hand-held shower, pedestal sink and bidet. Unfortunately, the tub leaked, so only a shower was possible. Unlike another reviewer's experience, our towels were changed daily, and beds were made up (i.e., feather beds were folded neatly on top of the mattresses). Small packets of shampoo and a tiny bar of soap were provided, but we had our own, so don't know if they would have been replaced. The staff were quite helpful, and all spoke passable to good English. The price for this hotel was given in euros (390 as a last-minute deal), so if you plan to stay here, you should convert dollars to euros and pay in cash. If you pay in Czech crowns, they will convert the euros to crowns using a higher rate than the change makers. If you pay with credit card, they will convert from euros to crowns, then from crowns to dollars -- not a good thing. Not having enough cash in euros, we ended up paying about $70 more for the room for our 5-night stay than we had expected, but for the location, it was still a bargain. Breakfast, as reported, was adequate. However, it was the same every day, so it was a little boring. This hotel is not the Ritz, but for economy-minded travelers, it is more than adequate.
