After checking two other locations in Prague on foot, we called Hotel Brezina and received a very favorable rate of K1500/night (for this city) for their last double room. When we arrived (on foot after quite a hike from the Jewish quarter) they gave us two choices b/c someone had cancelled. We checked a fifth floor room which was fine with wonderful beams, but we chose the first floor room looking into the back garden b/c it had a desk and nice beautiful high ceilings. Bathroom with shower and toilet very clean. Double bed just a tad hard but fine, although it's possible the detergent they use for the sheets is a bit reactive to my sensitive skin. They had wireless, which didn't work right off, but someone fixed it immediately when I reported it. It stopped working late that night and wasn't fixed yet in the evening, but when I reported it the guy at the desk gave me a cable to plug in directly, which I thought was very kind and solved all our problems. They have more English channels than anywhere we've stayed in Germany although BBC can't be heard--just seen. It's a very good location, although indeed located on a very busy street going out of the city, but close to Wenceslas Square and tram/metro lines too. It's practically a straight shot on Tram 22 to the palace, especially if you go to the top of the hill past the palace and walk down. For picnic groceries and regular folk type shopping, try Tesco department store--kind of like Super Walmart. It's on Tram line 22, and if you buy a 75 minute tram ticket (K26), you can jump off, get food, jump back on again and make it to your destination. As far as the reception people, people need to get over wanting everyone to be over-the-top ingratiating like the Americans are. Breakfast is indifferent. When I see what's available in the grocery stores, this breakfast is probably at the bottom of our list of five other places we've stayed in the last two weeks.
