HOTEL HOFWIRT - Salzburg, Austria 

We had 3 nights in this hotel and found it clean & comfortable, although a little noisy due to all floors having polished boards both in hallway & rooms. The room had a safe, but no fridge. We had booked double room it turned out to be movable twin beds as often happens in Europe but we were on non-smoking floor which was excellent. The bathroom very clean but compact. Window dressing (a venetian blind on the outside of the window) did not darken the room well. As we drove from Vienna, we found the hotel easy to locate and undercover parking was available on site at no extra cost. Breakfast was cold buffet which we found adequate with delicious bread rolls. Hofwirt is located on the edge of the pedestrian Salzburg area which is an advantage if you don't mind a walk and for us, being there during Euro 2008, which was vibrant, noisy & exciting, but at night it was better to be away from this area. Public transport went past door at hotel. Salzburg lovely city great starting point for Eisriesenwelt Ice Caves, Eagles Nest, St Wolfgang lakes area all of which we did & loved. We would recommend this hotel to fellow travellers.

We had a hard time finding the hotel when we walked there from the train station, but that was mostly our fault. It is a good 20 minute walk to the main train station, and about 10 minutes to the heart of the city. The rooms are spartan and modern feeling. The free breakfast is really nice and is served in a bright and HUGE breakfast room. Overall, it is well located and well priced for the average tourist.
