Address: Kirchengasse 41, Vienna, 1070
Altstadt Vienna details:  The Altstadt Vienna occupies a converted house firmly entrenched in one of Vienna’s best neighbourhoods - the “Spittelberg” - a district famous for its art, shops, culinary and culture activities and just next to the Museumsquartier. Our 4-star-house has a very personal atmosphere and our rooms and suites are all individually decorated presenting an excellent blend of Modern Art and traditional Viennese style. You will find a different kind of travelling experience when you choose our hotel.

It’s a short walk to the nearest subway station, and only 5 minutes to Vienna’s best shopping street, the Mariahilferstrasse.

Our house consists of individually designed rooms and suites. In autumn 2006 another 9 rooms, designed by Italian star-architect Matteo Thun were opened and contribute to the elegant but cozy atmosphere of the Altstadt Vienna.

The English-style Red Salon serves a superb breakfast buffet and a bar where our guests can relax next to the open fireplace. In the afternoon we serve complimentary tea and cake for our guests.

All non-smoking rooms.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights during our recent trip to Central Europe. We paid $185 Euro per night including breakfast. I thought the hotel was well worth the price. The front desk clerks, Petra and Teresa, were extraordinarily helpful with everything from restaurant recommendations and reservations to train reservations. We stayed in the "White Suite" which was spacious and included a four poster, curtained bed and small "sitting area" within the main room. The bathroom was large for a European property and, contrary to one review I read, had plenty of shelf space for toiletries. The breakfast was good and included "made to order" eggs which is not all that common. Nor is the inclusion of breakfast in the room rate. The other places we stayed on this trip charged an extra 20 Euro . .. .we passed. Admittedly, the hotel is not on the nicest street but I, again, disagree with the reviewer who said it was in a "bad neighborhood." The one major drawback, and it may be a big one for some people depending on the time of year, is that the property is not air conditioned. We were there during a late spring "heat wave" when the temperatures were around 30 C if not higher. The room, and the hotel in general, for that matter, were not too comfortable in these conditions. Despite this, I would stay here again. Yes, it's a bit of a walk to the major tourist sites but it's only about 5-7 minutes to the subway which is quite convenient. Plus, the walk always helped us walk off the excess beer and wurst .

We were booked at Das Tyrol but they messed up and double booked so sent us here for one night of our 3 night stay. Big mistake on their part - would choose Aldstadt for a return visit any time. Spacious rooms, bright clean bathrooms, good breakfast and tea and cakes included in the B&B price. Staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. Ok, so it's a few minutes further from the city centre but well worth the extra walk. We really liked the fact that the hotel was only part-occupier of the building - the presence of private flats in the same location only added to the unique feel of the place. The Aldstadt is so different from the standard global hotels we have stayed in so often - we would highly recommend it and find it hard to understand the few negative reviews.
