The Hotel Carlton Opera was a charming hotel in the sense it was very European. The room was small but ok with mini bar and clean bathroom and room. The location was great and easy walk to all sites of Vienna and the “Market” with great restaurants and outdoor shopping for clothes and produce/food etc. What I found most charming was the morning breakfast in the basement. The food was fresh and the hotel staff went out of their way to serve the guests. The coffee was the best part of the breakfast. The day reception staff was very helpful and made phone calls for us to ski and offered maps etc. The night staff one receptionist woman was just plain rude and could not be bothered with any and all questions. She was very short and was annoyed when asked for help etc. I hurt my knee and needed ice. She said they have no ice. The TV remote was broken and wrapped in duct tape. I told the day staff and at 7 pm a nice young gentleman came to the room with a brand new control and programmed it to the TV. When I showed him my swollen knee and told him the response of the night staff woman, he responded with she does not understand and returned to my room with ice packs. I greatly appreciated his politeness and he apologized for the rude night woman. It is a nice hotel and I would stay there again. It is a low budget hotel with no frills but it suited my budget and the location was again great. Vienna is expensive in regards to the dollar to Euros but a beautiful city.
