Nice hotel, highly recommended. Good welcome on arrival, the man at reception was very helpful. The room was pleasant and generally clean, although we found the shower was not spotless. No breakfast was included in the price, which would have been nice (given the price of the room). The hotel has a car park, which is reasonably priced (€5 per night?). The hotel is not right in the city centre, but this is clear from maps on the internet. It's about 1.5km to the city centre, which is walkable, but the hotel is also on a bus route which takes you to the city (the man at the reception explained this and was able to sell us tickets too). The buses back at night were a bit confusing however, so make sure to find out which ones go past the hotel.

We stayed at the Fontana for 2 nights when we had booked at the Opera. This is a small family hotel with a very authentic Italian character. The hotel staff were most welcoming, helpful and freindly, and we couldn't fault the service. The breakfast and other food was good quality (it is good to have decent coffee in the morning). It is a lovely old building and the courtyard is a most agreeable place to have breakfast and hang out. Its only limitation is distance from the centre (walkable for the young and energetic, but we weren't in that category). No problem during the day as there is a good bus service, but careful thought and planning needed in getting back in the evening.

It was really good to arrive at Fontana and have a refreshing shower, after the 36 degrees of Verona :) The room and the bathroom were really spacious and I had a good sleep.

problems with the use of the direct telephone line (impossibility to call outside without convincing explanation). A bit far from the historical city (20-25 mn walk)

I was visiting Verona as my choir had 2 concerts in Verona over the wend. The hotelwas not quite as close as I had anticitpted to the city of verona but close enough to walk to in about 15-20mins and there was a bus stop right outside the hotel also. I would recommend, as I chose to do that you do not include breakfast with your stay as the hotel does have a dining area where you can get coffee and a pastry etc etc at most times of the day. The staff were very helpful and I felt as a lone female traveller very comfortable and safe staying there. My single room had a bathroom with natural light and it had a balcony...rather appropriate for Verona I thought!!!

Not equipped for international tourists. Most staff do not speak english. Difficult to get help with local travel facilities. Long walk to Verona centre but good bus service - when you understand the timetable. Evening snacks expensive and breakfast poor.

Hotel was about 1.5 miles from Arena, quite a walk late at night. Service was very friendly. Breakfast was very basic.

I thought this hotel was overpriced for the quality of the rooms. They were clean and tidy, but the standard of the bathrooms in particular were very basic. Be warned that the hotel does not have its name displayed on the street, so it can be hard to spot. I suggest you have a good look at the photos on this site.

More or less as I'd expected from reviews and hotel write-up I'd read before booking. Very pleased with room and its appointment apart from fact that we had twin beds rather than a double. Traffic from street noisey but expected that. Receptionist very pleasant and helpful, she also spoke English fairly well. Mine host runs the bar in the evenings, speaks hardly any English but is an absolute fruitcake,if you can't have a laugh with him don't go to Itlay. He also does a reasonable evening meal. His wife runs the bar in the morning and is a lady even though busy most of the time. Serves capuccino and a croissant for €2 which isn't bad. There is a nice patio area in the back with umbrellas etc. though we couldn't use it because of the bad weather. When looking for the hotel(I recognized it on the bus from the website photo),it is opposite a hopital, and look out for the building number, they are clearly marked in Verona streets. Buses(21,22 and 93?)every 20 minutes from main station but check with driver it's going in your direction,a few words of Italian helps as does the ability to move sharpish, they don't queue in Italy and the buses don't hang about. Get tickets at Tabacchi in railway station or have right change and pay 20 cents more on bus. Get a €5 international phone card from the Tabacchi, you can call the UK for hours with it. Overall we enjoyed the hotel,it had 'personality'.

We had an overnight stay here in August and found the staff cheerful and very helpful. It was 15 euros for the taxi from the station. I left my jacket in the room and the hotel went to time and trouble to return it. I would stay here again.

A very pleasant hotel, short way out of the city centre but with easy bus access (make sure you get off at the correct stop or its a long walk!)

I stayed at the Fontana in July with my 19-year old son. The room was very basic, with a bathroom whose floor flooded when we took a shower. Although breakfast is not included in the price (highter than 3 star hotels in Florence, Rome, and Venice), there was a reasonably-priced cafeteria downstairs with friendly staff. The location was quite a distance from the main attractions, and although there was a bus right across the street, this did not run once the opera was over, which required either a 10 euro taxi ride or a 40 minute walk. I would rather spend extra money and stay closer to the arena and old part of the town next time.

At the hotel, everything was as exspected. Visiting the arena in the evening for a opera event, it is realy difficult to get back to the hotel without the own car. There is no more public transportation in the evening, taxis are rare, even 1 hour after the performance has finished, the queue at the taxi point was about 20 meters. So we had an half-hour walk back to the hotel!

A lovely hotel, easy to find, about a 30 minute walk from the town centre. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and comfortable, although some road noise if at the front of the hotel. Would stay here again when in Verona.

This was a nice spacious hotel .A bit out of town but the bus stops outside the hotel and takes you to both the castle(close to main center and arena)and to the railway station. They didnt speak much english but we still were able to get necessary information on bus's and other advice.

Hotel Fontana is a lovely, comfortable hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is perhaps a bit further out from the centre of Verona than we expected - perhaps including information about buses to the hotel on the website would be useful to future visitors.

I was more than surprised when seeing our room , it was excellant. For a two star Albergo it was way beyond expectations. The staff were so kind and helpful with everything we asked for, the bus stop was outside the hotel, the tabac for tickets 5 buildings away and it was wonderful to have a quiet haven for an evening drink on the patio, breakfast too! I would return to this Albergo anytime and would be pleased to recommend it. After staying there we were glad we did not book in the heart of Verona. It was much better than the description

Arrived just before midnight hungry..asked for nearest restaurant...and they reopened theirs. Hospital opposite meant excellent bus service.. which minimised the need for taxis.

Breakfast outside was lovely. We had a room on the front which proved noisy - we had to keep the windows closed so were very glad we had air con. Buses infrequent and stopped early evening but quick when they came.Rather far from centre - walk half and hour, but certainly excellent value and service.

A very clean and well-appointed hotel on a busy main road opposite the hospital. We had the bonus of a roof-terrace overlooking the hotel courtyard, although we only had time to use it briefly in the morning. We think that only one room has a terrace so it may be worth requesting this when booking. We were in Verona for the opera and found the walk into and out of the city manageable although it took over 30 minutes. If driving to the Fontana we strongly recommend that you avoid the centre of the city as its very busy and confusing - better to use the motorways to get to the north-west and enter on the Via Mamelli.
